N1  - A powerful earthquake struck the northern areas of Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan on 8 October 2005. THe impact was most severe in PAkistan, where over 75 000 people were killed, 12 000 were injured and disabled, and over 2.8 million people were left homeless.
