This book represents the largest and most comprehensive collection of the art of MacDermott & MacGough ever published. Featuring 130 paintings and 25 photographs, the book's retrospective scope is an essential document on the strange, almost hermetic world of this fabled duo. Thematically grouped sections, including Silhouette Paintings, "Conspiracy" Paintings and Photographic Art, allow the reader to discover the many variations of MacDermott and MacGough's aesthetic -- an aesthetic which is, as Robert Rosenblum notes in his thoughtful introduction, a self-consciously ironic appropriation of the past. The book also includes a characteristically enigmatic and purposely antiquated statement by the artists themselves.
